Welcome to the Janice Thompson Singing Studio

I, Janice V Thompson MA FISM LRAM ATCL, am an accomplished singing teacher, vocal coach, mentor and accompanist. I am experienced in working with beginners, advanced and professional singers of all voice types, ages and abilities. My teaching work is based on an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary teaching models, enhanced by influences from complimentary disciplines and therapies.

ONLINE SINGING LESSONS ARE AVAILABLE VIA SKYPE/FACETIME contact me on jtsingingstudio@aol.com

Since the establishment of my Swindon singing studio in 1986, I have  successfully coached singers for professional auditions, post-graduate and undergraduate courses at music Conservatoires, musical theatre colleges, vocal diplomas and graduation recitals, also competitive Festivals, performances and music/musical theatre exams.

Present and former students are currently appearing in the West End, with international Opera Companies, sing in bands, on cruise ships, in the National Youth Choirs and Youth Musical Theatre Companies.  Some are leading singers in local performing arts companies. Others are now singing teachers themselves in Performing Arts schools and Music Hubs.

I am a Fellow Member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, a past Chair of the Association of Teachers of Singing (2012-4) and am presently Conference Director of AOTOS. I am also mentor on the AOTOS Pathways Training for Voice Teachers initiative.

I am  the Artistic Director at the JTPTrust (www.jtptrust.org) a vocal educational charity based in Wiltshire which reaches out to hundreds of aspiring young singers.

Since the millennium, I have presented demonstrations and papers on topics including Young Developing Voices at national and international events; for AOTOS conference in 2007 and subsequent Teacher Training Courses; the BVA circa 2002; for EVTA, Eurovox in 2012; for AICI in Mantova, Italy and at the ABCD conference in 2014. Most recently I presented ‘Altogether Now’, a demonstration of nurturing the young singer within a group teaching situation at the South-East AOTOS Area Day.

I am also an experienced co-ordinator/director of operatic works, youth musicals, community productions and  conferences. My links with contemporary vocal composers include the direction of musicals and short operas by Betty Roe MBE. In particular I have championed community productions on topics related to my home town, including ‘Brunel the Little Man in the Tall Hat’ (2006 and 2016) and Swindon the Opera (2012), both featuring Roe’s music.  I have also been instrumental in bringing the vocal compositions of the late Nigel Draycott  into print and has acted as a consultant in the updating of the Trinity Laban singing exam syllabus.
