Welcome to the Janice Thompson Singing Studio

Janice V Thompson MA FISM LRAM ATCL is an accomplished singing teacher, vocal coach, mentor and accompanist who is at home working with singers of all voice types, ages and abilities.

Since the establishment of her Swindon singing studio in 1986, Janice has guided singers to success in performance, national competitions, examinations and vocal careers, using her own unique blend of singing techniques and vocal coaching styles,  Her skills and experience include mentoring aspiring singing teachers and choral conductors, vocal rehabilitation and adjudicating.

Janice has successfully coached singers towards Vocal Diplomas and graduation recitals, most recently for Bath Spa University.  Thanks to her professional support, numerous singers have achieved undergraduate and postgraduate places at Music Conservatoires and Musical Theatre colleges. Former students have appeared in West End Musical Theatre Companies and Touring Companies, with leadingnational and international companies, in the British Youth Opera, in National Youth Choirs and Youth Musical Theatre Companies, at the Edinburgh Fringe and on cruise ships. Several former singers are now performing across Europe.  Many others are now singing teachers themselves in Performing Arts schools and Music Hubs.

                             

Janice is a Fellow Member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and a past Chair of the Association of Teachers of Singing (2012-4). She is presently Conference Director of AOTOs and mentors on the AOTOS Pathways Training for Voice Teachers initiative.

Janice is also the Artistic Director at the jtptrust (www.jtptrust.org) a vocal educational charity based in Wiltshire which reaches out to hundreds of aspiring young singers.

Since the millennium, Janice has presented demonstrations and papers on topics including Young Developing Voices at national and international events; for AOTOS conference in 2007 and subsequent Teacher Training Courses; the BVA circa 2002; for EVTA, Eurovox in 2012; for AICI in Mantova, Italy and at the ABCD conference in 2014

Janice is also an experienced co-ordinator/director of operatic works, youth musicals, community productions and  conferences. Her links with contemporary vocal composers include the direction of musicals and short operas by Betty Roe MBE. In particular she has championed community productions on topics related to her home town, including ‘Brunel the Little Man in the Tall Hat’ (2006 and 2016) and Swindon the Opera (2012), both featuring Roe’s music  Janice has also been instrumental in bringing the vocal compositions of the late Nigel Draycott  into print and has acted as a consultant in the updating of the Trinity Laban singing exam syllabus.
